Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Avascular Necrosis

Other Medical Conditions and HBOT | Published: March 27th 2018, 07:35PM

This patient had already started hyperbaric treatments with us paying cash for Preventative Healing. After his first few treatments he mentioned he was having Left elbow pain and was seeing another physician for this issue.

Upon further examination we found out that he had recently been diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis of the Elbow. With this condition the blood flow to the affected area is absent. This can happen for no reason or could also be trauma induced.

This condition left him with a constant aching and dull pain within his elbow. He had difficulty lifting objects as well as increased pain when bending his elbow. This condition is typically corrected with surgery. Luckily his doctor was aware of studies published with Hyperbarics and she suggested him to have up to 100 Hyperbaric sessions.

This is something I have successfully treated over my career, so a protocol was established, his treatment depth was modified, and he continued. By his 40tx treatment the patient was not experiencing any pain within in his elbow. Dr. Z ordered another MRI to compare.

We were super excited to confirm that after just 40 treatments the patient was fully healed with No evidence of Avascular Necrosis within his elbow.

This condition is not one of the typical 14 approved indications. The patient had a commercial insurance, so Jenifer pulled the proper paperwork to submit for an authorization. Thankfully the insurance approved all his treatments, so the patient was not responsible to pay the cash rate.
