Insights on scaling a hyperbaric therapy business while balancing family life and community care

Orlando Voyager features Erika Jordan, founder of Hyperbaric Healing Treatment Center, as she discusses scaling her HBOT clinics, balancing family life, and expanding accessible therapy across Central Florida.

Erika Jordan (DMS, EMT, CHT, CHS) is the proud owner of Hyperbaric Healing Treatment Center. She’s a qualified Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, an Emergency Medical Technician, and a Certified Hyperbaric Technologist with the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology. As a Hyperbaric Safety Director, Erika also has additional training in Transcutaneous Oxygen Monitoring and Inspection, Maintenance, and Documentation of Hyperbaric Chamber Acrylics.

Erika started her career as a Hyperbaric Chamber Operator at a private hyperbaric oxygen facility in Delray Beach, FL. Spurred on by her passion for helping patients heal, she quickly rose to become the Facility Manager and Safety Director there. Erika then moved closer to her hometown near Orlando to be with her family. While in Central Florida, she ran multiple hospital-affiliated facilities as their Senior Hyperbaric Safety Specialist.

Having experienced the limitations of hospital settings firsthand, Erika was inspired to create a more inclusive treatment environment. The rigid 14 insurance-approved indications at those facilities often meant turning away patients who didn’t fit within these narrow guidelines. Armed with her experience from a private clinic, Erika transformed her frustration into a mission to offer HBOT to all patients in a more accessible and cost-effective manner.

Since the beginning, the Hyperbaric Healing Treatment Center has seen remarkable growth, evolving from a team of two to eight full-time employees, establishing two locations, and featuring six state-of-the-art hyperbaric chambers. Erika, her husband Justin, and their daughters, Ella and Eva, share a life rich in love and laughter, accompanied by their two sweet dogs! She loves camping and exploring the great outdoors with her family when she’s not busy working.

“Since we opened in 2017, our goal has been to provide safe, high-quality, affordable treatment options for every patient,” Erika says. “I’m incredibly grateful to all our dear, sweet, wonderful patients who chose to seek hyperbaric treatments with us. My team and I are honored to help you on your healing journey!”

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

My current obstacles/challenges are common for most: work, life, and balance. Directing two offices with two babies can be a handful. I manage these by working hard while I’m at work and then putting all of my love and attention to my babies when I’m at home. My days start at 5:30 am, and I typically return home by 6 pm. I separate the two, as having a solid work ethic and maintaining a stable, loving family life is essential. While at the office, I stay on track by making a list with dated deadlines. This gives me time to plan and ensure the job gets done on time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your business.

At Hyperbaric Healing Treatment Centers, we have state-of-the-art Sechrist 3600 monoplane hyperbaric chambers capable of pressures up to 3.0 atmospheres. We are proud to treat patients for various insurance-approved and off-label medical conditions. Our chambers are made of clear acrylic, allowing the patient to see outside the chamber and allowing our trained technologists to monitor them closely at all times. Each chamber has streaming capabilities to relax and watch a movie or TV show during treatment. Our top priority is ensuring your comfort and care throughout your healing journey.

Do you have any big plans?

I am so thankful to have grown so much in the years we have been open. Every day, my two offices are getting busier and busier, thus creating a need to provide more Hyperbaric services for the community and surrounding areas. My goal is to continue growth by opening more centers to continue offering community hyperbaric care for whatever conditions are needed to heal naturally.
